Food for Life Brown Rice Tortillas

I have been looking for a gluten-free wrap to mix up our lunches a bit. We bought some of the Food for Life Brown Rice Tortillas. I brought one for lunch the first day and it was very brittle which made it difficult to eat. If I remember correctly the package says they recommend to heat them up. The second day I brought them I tried heating them up. They were still falling apart. We finally gave up on making them work and are on the search for a different sandwhich wrap.
I had higher expectations.

Stacey,

These are the best I've found but as you found, they can be hit or miss. I would recommend trying them again by purchasing them on a different occasion and if at all possible, from a store with a higher turnover. Then, as recommended, heat them up a touch (relatively low power in the microwave until no longer frozen.) I've had the worst luck with them if I let them defrost on their own, or heat them outside the microwave (on top of my Forman Grill while cooking the contents). King's at one point was selling a GF wrap that contains Teff flour but the flavor of the Teff was a touch over powering. Trader Joe's also has a brown rice wrap but I found it crumbled worse than these.

Good luck!

Thanks for the tips GF/DF Adventurer. We'll have to try that. I put them in the fridge so they were defrosted when we used them. I guess that wasn't a good idea. There are so many little tricks to eating GF.

I love the Sonoma ivory teff wraps. they can taste is a bit different at first, but I got used to them very quickly, and teff is so much better nutritionally than more rice products! I just keep my teff wraps frozen, and they unthaw in well under 30 minutes. but usually I take them straight out of the freezer and microwave them for 20 seconds (but if you do it my lazy way, they can be kinda sticky, so let them sit a minute so they aren't slimy. and these ones don't crumble on you either. they're the only wraps I buy now~ you should try them out.

These work best for me if I use them for quesadillas and heat them in a little olive oil or butter in a nonstick skillet. They also make great wraps if you heat in the skillet with a little oil and then put filling in them. So, not a good lunch packing wrap, but good at home lunch or dinner.

These are awesome, they can be hit or miss as wraps, but as pizza crusts you will not find a better GF alternative, especially if you are a thin crust guy like I am. Put your sauce, meat, veg and cheese on these, heat at 300-350 for 10 minutes and Kapow! Way better than any premade crust and better than any recipe Ive found.

Never had too much problem with them as a wrap, certainly not as easy to work with as the old flour ones.

The tortilla brand actually works best when heated in the oven or toaster oven and folded in half. It crumbled on me also when I tried to wrap ingredients.

If you fry them like corn tortillas they are soft and yummy.
